Frequently asked questions

The short answers people want before they sign up: what Lodestone costs, how it handles Swedish tax, where your data lives, and how to get help.

Is Lodestone free?
Yes. The core tracker (manual entry, CSV imports, the balance sheet, cashflow and the FIRE projection) is free forever, with no card required. A Standard subscription adds automatic bank sync, the AI features, advanced dashboards and data export.
How is this different from a spreadsheet or Kubera?
Everything is derived from one transaction ledger, so your balance sheet, cashflow, history and FIRE date always agree and update together when you import a statement. Kubera tracks balances only; a spreadsheet does not model Swedish tax or a real financial-independence date. Lodestone does both from the same data.
Does it understand Swedish tax (ISK, KF, pension)?
Yes, and it is the point. ISK and kapitalförsäkring are taxed with schablonskatt, pensions pay avkastningsskatt and stay locked until their unlock age, and taxable accounts lose 30% of gains on withdrawal. Because of that, Lodestone reports two ages: the naive one, when total capital crosses your FIRE number, and the accessible one, the earliest age your spendable money actually bridges you.
How do I get my data in?
Drop a CSV from Avanza or Nordnet, snap a photo of a statement and let AI read it, connect European banks through Open Banking, sync crypto wallets, or forward broker emails to your household’s private import address so the ledger maintains itself. Manual entry always works too.
Which banks and brokers work?
Broker exports from Avanza and Nordnet import directly, and any CSV or PDF statement can be read. Bank connections use Open Banking (GoCardless), which covers most European banks. Avanza and Nordnet holdings have no open API in Sweden, so those stay on import or the email-in address.
Is my financial data private and safe?
Your data is yours and is never sold. Lodestone is multi-tenant, and every household is isolated: nobody can see another household’s numbers. Secrets like bank keys are encrypted at rest. You can export everything to CSV and JSON, or delete your account, at any time.
Can my partner or household join?
Yes, and household members are free. A household is the unit of financial independence, so it is the unit in Lodestone: each member owns their own items and the household rolls up into one shared picture, one plan, one date. A read-only share link can show the overview to an advisor or family without handing over a login.
Is Lodestone financial advice?
No. Lodestone is a tracker and a planner, not a financial advisor. It never sells your data and never sells you funds. Its projections are estimates based on your inputs and assumptions, not a recommendation.
How do I cancel, export, or delete my data?
You can cancel a Standard subscription at any time and keep the free tier. Full CSV and JSON export is available whenever you want it, and deleting your account removes your data. No lock-in.
How do I get help?
Once you are signed in, there is a Contact form in the account menu that reaches the team directly. The fastest way to see what Lodestone does is to sign up and load the sample data.
